Who We Are
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) is the specialist medical college for ophthalmologists in Australia and New Zealand overseeing a Vocational Training Program (VTP), continuing professional development (CPD), scientific congresses and meetings, and advocacy.
Our Mission
Our mission is to lead eye care by setting and improving standards, providing lifelong education, promoting research and innovation and advocating on behalf of patients, their communities and our membership.
What We Do

Training & Fellowship (FRANZCO) through our five‑year Vocational Training Program regulated by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).

Continuing Professional Development (CPD): A structured system to maintain excellence via accredited learning, publications (Eye2Eye, Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology), and our Annual Scientific Congress.

Advocacy & Global Eye Health: Contributing to Vision 2030 and beyond goals, strengthening eye care workforce in the Asia‑Pacific, and promoting equitable access alongside government and health partners.
Structure and Accountability

Governed by a Board and Council, supported by staff under CEO Mark Carmichael.

Registered as a charity in both Australia (ACNC) and New Zealand.

Has a three-year Strategic Plan 2024-2026, which aims to build on the College’s successes to date while clearly articulating our vision, mission and strategic priorities.
ACNC Registered Charity Tick
RANZCO is registered with the Australian Charity and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) as a charity. The ACNC has a function of improving public understanding of the work of charities and the not-for-profit sector in general. The Registered Charity Tick is intended to help the public instantly identify a registered charity, and encourage them to visit the Charity Register listing.
