Future Ophthalmologists
RANZCO is the training college, professional body and membership organisation for ophthalmologists in Australia and New Zealand.
RANZCO’s Vocational Training Program (VTP) is a five year program that comprises two years of basic training and two years of advanced training undertaken in a series of rotations in training networks (including rural networks). This is followed by a final year of training for which a trainee develops their own training proposal and submits it to the Progression Committee for approval. The VTP Requirements Guide highlights the performance expectations, critical milestones, and administrative requirements for trainees undertaking the VTP.
Training networks comprise multiple training posts, usually in teaching hospitals and occasionally large private practices. RANZCO sets the curriculum standards that underpin all training and assessment, conducts a progressive assessment throughout the training process, and provides support to trainees as they progress through the VTP.
RANZCO also carries out assessments for Specialist International Medical Graduates wishing to live and work in Australia and New Zealand.
