Last week RANZCO had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from China led by Dr Ailian Hu, Director of Eye Health, Institute of Beijing Tong Ren Hospital and Director of the National Prevention of Blindness Program in China. The delegation, who joined us at the RANZCO office in Sydney, was made up of ophthalmologists and senior provincial and national officials tasked with blindness prevention. The delegation had a particular interest in workforce planning and capacity building in eye health and so the RANZCO team provided relevant background on the College’s role and global activities, the ophthalmology training program and monitoring and evaluation. Discussions revolved mainly around RANZCO’s vocational training program and curriculum development.
The meeting was made possible through a request from The Fred Hollows Foundation. The Chinese delegation was on a week-long study tour, being briefed on The Fred Hollows Foundation Indigenous Australia Program, and visiting hospitals and eye health NGOs in Sydney.
