Collaborative Care
RANZCO collaborates across the sector to provide interprofessional approaches to continuing professional development (CPD), guidelines and clinical standards as well as the co-design of patient information resources.
To optimise the quality and safety of patient care, stakeholder engagement processes involve broad consultation with optometry organisations, medical colleges, professional networks and patient peak bodies.
The result of expert consensus, RANZCO’s guidelines and referral pathways aim to improve screening, management and treatment. Informed by feedback from stakeholders and the latest evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic advances, RANZCO has developed a number of patient pathways encompassing:
- RANZCO Referral Pathway for Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
- RANZCO Referral Pathway for Diabetic Retinopathy (DR)
- Clinical Notes for RANZCO Screening and Referral Pathway for Diabetic Retinopathy in Australia 2019
- RANZCO Referral Pathway for Glaucoma Management
- Guidelines for the Collaborative Care of Glaucoma Patients
- Glaucoma Referral Pathways to District Health Boards (DHBs New Zealand)
In this way, RANZCO endorses processes that ensure that the limited funding available for healthcare, is used in the most efficient manner to support health care providers to deliver the best patient outcomes.
