Ophthalmologists

RANZCO is the training college, professional body and membership organisation for ophthalmologists in Australia and New Zealand. Our membership includes around 95 per cent of ophthalmologists in Australia and New Zealand, as well as trainees and allied health professionals. Ophthalmologists who are RANZCO members are held to a standard of professional practice as encapsulated in the Code of Conduct and receive the right to use the title FRANZCO (Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists).

RANZCO provides a range of training, support and other resources for ophthalmologists, including continuing professional development (CPD), industry updates, events, a quarterly magazine and a regular scientific journal. RANZCO also represents the ophthalmology profession and the best interests of ophthalmic patients in the public policy and political realms and raises awareness of eye conditions and ophthalmology with the wider public.

As well as all the information available on the public RANZCO website, by signing in RANZCO Fellows have access to exclusive information and resources, including all of our journals, CPD diary, the RANZCO Health Insights Tool, a committees portal and volunteer opportunities.

RANZCO is also committed to fostering places of work and training where people feel included and valued. The Diversity and Inclusion Committee takes the lead in suggesting initiatives to the Board and Council that further these aims. RANZCO expects all Fellows, associates, trainees and employees to abide by the Diversity and Inclusion Policy. See here for more information on RANZCO’s diversity and inclusion initiatives.

See below for more information about becoming a member, accessing CPD for non-members and joining RANZCO as a specialist international medical graduate.

Non-Fellows and CPD

RANZCO welcomes ophthalmologists who are currently not RANZCO Fellows to make RANZCO their CPD Home. Current fees to participate in RANZCO’s CPD Program for non-members are $4,913 (excl. GST).

Applications are available online. If you would like more information, please email us at cpd@ranzcodev.dev.nucleoserver.com or phone +61 2 9690 1001.

Please note: RANZCO reserves the right to refuse applications for participation in the CPD Program.

Specialist International Medical Graduates

RANZCO is tasked with the assessment of Specialist International Medical Graduates (SIMGs) in ophthalmology on behalf of both the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) and Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ). Upon completion of its assessment process, RANZCO makes a recommendation to the relevant authority as to whether or not an SIMG should be recognised as a specialist in either Australia or New Zealand.

See here for more information about SIMG applications.
