Professional Standards
RANZCO is committed to ensuring the highest professional standards in the ophthalmology profession. With this in mind, the Professional Standards Committee is commissioned by the RANZCO Board to assist Fellows in the development of non-clinical skills in ophthalmology. The Board has identified a need to assist Fellows with non-clinical skills that are required by medical specialists, especially in regard to their roles as:
- managers;
- health advocates;
- scholars;
- professionals;
- communicators;
- medical experts/clinical decision makers; and
- collaborators.
As part of their role, the Professional Standards Committee developed and launched the NUCLEUS Practice Accreditation program, to assist Fellows in Australia and New Zealand meet the requirements for practice accreditation. In Australia accreditation is governed by the NSQHS Standards and in New Zealand the NZ Standard 8164.
To support Fellows in maintaining the highest professional standards RANZCO also produces resources for use in private practices in the areas of:
- human resources;
- accreditation;
- finance; and
- business planning.
