In July 2023, past RANZCO President (2020-2022) Prof Nitin Verma AM visited the National Institutes of Health (NIH) headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland USA, to speak on the delivery of vision care to underserved populations in the Australia/South Pacific region.
His talk was part of the Global Health Vision Lecture Series, sponsored by the National Eye Institute (NEI) and the NIH Global Health Interest Group.
As RANZCO Global Eye Health Committee Chair, Nitin reflects on his career and his passion for global health, showcased through his work in establishing initiatives such as the East Timor Eye Program. He has further strived to improve accessibility and quality of care in Papua New Guinea and sparsely populated regions of Australia.
