RANZCO SA Branch launches ophthalmology elective opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students

Established in partnership with Glaukos and RANZCO’s Australian and New Zealand Eye Foundation (ANZEF), RANZCO’s South Australia Branch has launched Ophthalmology Elective Grants for First Nations medical students at Flinders University and The University of Adelaide.

This grant aims to support and encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students to pursue an ophthalmology elective, potentially leading to a future career in the field.

To be selected, students must submit an outline of their plans to complete an ophthalmology elective along with a scholarship request to RANZCO SA Branch Chair Anna Galanopoulos, who led this initiative, via email to anna.galanopoulos@sa.gov.au. Students will also be required to apply through the usual channels for elective positions in ophthalmology at teaching hospitals in South Australia, including Royal Adelaide Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, as well as Alice Springs Hospital in the Northern Territory.
