Therapeutics Committee – Members
Calls for expressions of interest to join the Therapeutics Committee are now open! We strongly encourage Fellows who subspecialise in paediatrics, glaucoma and uveitis to apply.
Committee members remain in the position for a term of 3 years, with the option of three additional one-year terms. Committee members are expected to meet as required and, in any event, once per year, in-person, at the annual scientific conference.
The Committee is primarily tasked with:
- Providing advice on drugs and other therapeutic substances used by ophthalmologists in clinical practice;
- Providing advice and direction to the Board on emerging therapeutic issues;
- Providing input into clinical guidelines, position statements and RANZCO responses to submissions and inquiries that relate to therapeutic substances.

Māori and Pacific Peoples Eye Health Committee – Members

- Guiding and overseeing the development and implementation of actions in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health as per the Vision 2030 and beyond plan.
- Initiating, participating in, and advising on, RANZCO approved initiatives to help close the gap in eye health in Australia.
- Promoting an awareness of, and strategies to, overcome barriers in the provision of quality eye care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations in urban, regional and remote areas.

Calls for expressions of interest to join the Sustainability Committee, a standing committee of the College, are now open! Multiple vacancies are available, and we strongly encourage Fellows who have a commitment to, and understanding of, sustainable eye care delivery to apply.
Committee members remain in the position for a term of 3 years, with the option of three additional one-year terms. Committee members are expected to meet as required and, in any event, at least twice per year, over Zoom or in-person.
The Committee is tasked with:
- Ensuring that the RANZCO Sustainability Charter, Principles and Goals are being addressed and measured;
- Making recommendations to the Board about actions, including partnerships, required to ensure the long-term sustainability of RANZCO; and
- Reviewing the Sustainability Charter and UN Sustainability Development Goals for RANZCO every two years and recommending changes to the Board.

The Committee meets via Zoom to discuss cases referred to it by the College’s Complaints Offer. An understanding of good governance and commitment to following published policy and procedures is required. As the need arises, Committee members may be called upon to review and advise on articles to help educate members about professional conduct and to provide feedback to proposed changes in regulations in advertising, good medical practice, etc

Progression Committee – Members
RANZCO is recruiting members for the Progression Committee
The purpose of the Committee is to:
- Review trainee readiness to progress to the next stage of the Vocational Training Program (VTP)
- Review individual trainees who are facing challenges with progression
- Provide expert advice and support to the Censor-in-Chief (CiC);
- Engage with RANZCO committees and staff to support the design and delivery of the VTP
In order to be eligible, RANZCO Fellows must be at least 5 years post VTP training.
The time commitment will vary but will involve after-hours meetings, as and when required.

NZ Network Selection – Chair
RANZCO is seeking Expressions of Interests from Fellows based in New Zealand for a NZ Network Selection Chair.
Requirements:
- Must hold FRANZCO.
- Does not need to be a current member of the Education Committee (EC).
Role Overview:
This role supports the coordination and delivery of the NZ network selection process. The appointed individual will work closely with the EC Chair and Director of Training (DOT) to ensure an efficient and transparent process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all aspects of the NZ network interviews, including:
- Securing the interview venue and organising catering.
- Scheduling interview times and managing the interview timetable.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for all candidates — managing communications and notifications.
- Supporting the scoring process by tallying results in line with NZ network weightings.
- Attend the NZ Network Selection Discussion and the EC meeting immediately following the interview process (once annually).
Term of Appointment:
- 3 years.

Training Assessments Committee – Members
The purpose of the Committee is to oversee the implementation and delivery of non-examination assessments and training requirements (e.g., work-based assessments, reflective activities, completion of required online modules) in the Vocational Training Program (VTP) Assessment Program.
Members of the Training Assessments Committee should be a Fellow of RANZCO (minimum of three years) or hold similar standing in a professional body akin to RANZCO and be recognized by RANZCO.

Human Research Ethics Committee – Member
RANZCO’s Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) is currently seeking Expressions of Interest for:
- One (1) member with specialist knowledge in ophthalmology (sub-specialty glaucoma)
The HREC’s broad role is to assess applications involving ophthalmology related human research projects.
The Committee is made up of Ophthalmologists, other professionals and lay people and seeks an additional ophthalmology specialist applicant. The time commitment and responsibilities would include participation at four evening meetings per year (generally 5:30-6:30pm), reading and commenting on eye related research applications involving human research proposals, and regular email correspondence.
The Human Research Ethics Committee is responsible to the Board of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists as well as the Qualification and Education Committee. All participants of committees of RANZCO are voluntary.
This is an excellent opportunity to make a positive contribution to the vision of Australian and New Zealand communities through the College.

Skill/Area of Specialisation
The committee members that we are seeking requires specialist knowledge in glaucoma, and the ability to objectively articulate their views about an applicant’s research proposal. In addition to this the person would be carrying out the following duties:
- Reviewing an applicant’s documentation to make sure it complies with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, 2007.
- Deciding with other Committee members which areas of an application require further explanation or are unethical including the patient information and consent forms.
- Writing up a summary of areas of a proposal that need further information provided, or are unethical.
- Making a final recommendation to the committee whether a research proposal should proceed.
- Maintaining paper and electronic files from email correspondence and application information.
