NZ Branch Eye Health Equity Scholarships

Anyone involved in improving equity in eye health in Aotearoa New Zealand is invited to apply for one of two RANZCO Eye Health Equity Scholarships, sponsored by the New Zealand Branch.

The two scholarships require applicants to submit work they have done to improve eye health equity in Aotearoa New Zealand. This could be an equity-based research project or presentation of practical changes in ophthalmology management that help to reduce inequity. Recipients will be expected to present their work at the NZ RANZCO Branch Meeting. Complimentary registration, and accommodation for two nights at a conference hotel will be organised. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed upon submission of receipts after the ASM. The total prize funding is limited to NZD $1100 per scholarship.

NSW Branch Future Study Scholarship

The NSW Branch invited applications from NSW residents with AHPRA registration who are working in eye health for this scholarship, which can be applied for research costs, conference registration for presentations and posters, fellowship travel, accommodation and higher education courses to a maximum of AUD$5,000.

Applicants must:

  • Be a NSW resident with AHPRA registration
  • Work in eye health for future study/research
  • Submit a 500-word written statement clearly outlining the aims, methods, expected outcomes, and impact of their proposal, and how it will contribute to the advancement of research and the profession
  • Must not have previously received a RANZCO Industry Scholarship, ANZEF Scholarship or Travelling Scholarship

Terms and Conditions:

  • Recipients shall be required to present their project/research at the NSW Branch ASM
  • Complementary registration and attendance at all NSW Branch ASM social events will be provided

ANZEF Scholarships

The Australian and New Zealand Eye Foundation (ANZEF), RANZCO’s philanthropic arm, has a number of scholarships on offer throughout the year for:

  • First Nations medical students and junior doctors in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand with an interest in eye health
  • Eye health professionals from low-resource settings in the Asia-Pacific region
  • RANZCO VTP trainees with an interest in First Nations eye health

Topham Scholarship – QLD Trainees

This overseas training scholarship is for a Queensland Registrar in their final year of training. Its purpose is to encourage trainees to work overseas. To be eligible, the following applies:

  •  QLD Trainee – QLD Trainee refers to either (1) a QLD ophthalmology trainee or (2) an interstate ophthalmology trainee who graduated from a QLD medical school.
  •  Final year of training overseas – Applications are welcome for a scholarship for a final year registrar who, at the time of selection, is either holding an overseas fellowship or has na acceptance letter to train overseas.
  •  Your research must not involve any animal experimentation.

Please send your application to ranzco@amaq.com.au. Application is to be one page, typed in font 12, stating your intended field of ophthalmology subspecialty training and to which institution you are applying or have received a job offer. Include a copy of applications and intended job offers. Please also enclose a current copy of your CV.
